Big Three calculator

Your Big Three are your Sun, Moon and rising signs, the three placements astrologers read first. Enter your birth date, time and place and I calculate all three at once, in both the Western and Vedic zodiacs.

The rising sign changes about every two hours, so it needs your birth time. Without one, I can still show your Sun and Moon.

What are the Big Three?

The Sun describes core identity and direction, the Moon describes emotional needs and what brings comfort, and the rising sign describes first impressions and the way someone meets the world. Astrologers traditionally read the three together because each covers a different layer, so a person rarely fits one sign description alone. The combination is calculated from birth date, time and place; the meanings are traditional interpretation.

Which of the three matters most?

None outranks the others; they describe different layers. Western horoscopes are written for the Sun sign because it needs only a birth date. Vedic astrology leans on the Moon sign and the rising sign (lagna). Reading all three together is why two people with the same Sun sign can come across so differently.

What if I do not know my birth time?

Your Sun sign is almost always certain from the date alone, and your Moon sign usually is. The rising sign changes about every two hours, so it is withheld without a time rather than guessed.

How is it calculated?

Positions come from Kendraya Engine, which calculates the apparent sky from NASA/JPL DE440s orbital data and converts your local birth time to Universal Time with historical time-zone rules. The Western result uses the tropical zodiac and the Vedic result the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa. How the calculations work.
